TL;DR
If your child is in an Integrated Programme (IP) and considering polytechnic, start with two questions:
(1) Which recognised qualification will they apply with? (Many polytechnic admissions via JAE are based on GCE O-Level results and the course-dependent ELR2B2 aggregate.)
(2) What is the timeline to get that qualification and apply?
The most practical next step is usually: shortlist target diplomas → confirm the course’s ELR2B2 aggregate type → speak to your current school early about switching plans and subject combinations.
  • IP to poly is mainly a qualification and timeline question: Identify what result your target diploma accepts.
  • Many JAE poly routes use O-Level results and ELR2B2: Check the diploma's aggregate type before changing subjects.
  • Work backward from the diploma, then decide whether a school switch, private-candidate route, or another admission route is realistic: For example, if a course needs ELR2B2-B, confirm which science and maths subjects can count before leaving IP.

Important note
This is a planning guide, not an official MOE policy page. IP transfer rules are school-specific, and admission rules are course- and institution-specific. Always verify details on MOE and your school/polytechnic.

1 | The two decisions parents and students are really making

When parents and students say “transfer from IP to poly”, it can mean very different situations.

Before you think about forms and deadlines, get clarity on these two decisions:
