Q: What is the current NUS High Year 1 DSA process? A: For the 2027 intake, the MOE application closed on 2 June 2026 and every applicant sat Mathematics and Science Selection Tests on 4 July. NUS High says shortlisted applicants will be notified by 23 July and attend a Selection Camp on 24 or 25 July. This Year 1 DSA process does not list a separate interview.

The school says shortlisted applicants will receive the camp invitation through the main contact email by 23 July. It does not provide application status or outcome information by telephone.
Is NUS High DSA-only?
NUS High says 100% of places for Year 1 admission in 2027 are offered through the DSA-Sec Exercise and that it does not participate in the ordinary Secondary 1 Posting Exercise.
There is an important qualification: if vacancies remain after DSA, the school may run a Supplementary Intake Exercise after PSLE results. Calling DSA the only possible Year 1 route is therefore incomplete.
The current routes are:
DSA-Sec: the main Year 1 route, with the 2026 application now closed.
Supplementary Intake Exercise: a conditional route that opens only if vacancies are available after DSA.
Who could apply for Year 1 DSA?
For Year 1 admission in 2027, the current FAQ says:
a Singapore mainstream-school applicant must be in Primary 6;
a non-mainstream-school applicant must be studying or have completed Primary 6 or its equivalent;
the applicant must have been born from 2012 to 2014; and
the applicant should not be older than 15 on 1 January 2027.
Applicants selected NUS High under either the Math or Science talent area. The school says to register only once under one of those areas, not twice, because the MOE portal allows only three DSA choices.
NUS High does not offer a Year 1 DSA sports talent area.
The two-phase selection
Phase 1: Mathematics and Science tests
Every Year 1 DSA applicant sat both tests on 4 July, regardless of whether Math or Science was selected in the portal.
The school says the selection assesses understanding and application of mathematics and science taught in school. It can also include general-knowledge questions about mathematics and science.
The public page does not publish:
the number of questions;
section timings within the 8.30am-to-noon block;
a detailed syllabus or topic list;
marking rules;
a cut-off score;
past-year papers; or
a tuition or preparation programme endorsed by the school.
Do not infer these details from old test reports, commercial classes or another DSA school.
Phase 2: Selection Camp
Only shortlisted applicants attend the camp on 24 or 25 July. NUS High says it looks for qualities including problem-solving ability, passion and motivation, independence, creativity and communication ability.
The current public pages do not disclose the camp's duration, station list, scoring, group format, materials, dress requirements or detailed tasks. The invitation email controls those logistics.
Contrary to the previous guide, the current Year 1 DSA process does not list a separate interview. NUS High lists interviews for Year 3 admission and the conditional Supplementary Intake Exercise, which are different routes.
How NUS High says it shortlists
The school's current FAQ lists these inputs:
performance in the Mathematics and Science Selection Tests;
primary-school test and examination results showing mastery of the primary Mathematics and Science syllabus;
participation and achievements in mathematics- and science-related competitions and programmes; and
related CCA accomplishments, including certificates and awards.
The wider admissions page also lists school academic performance, a portfolio showing passion and aptitude in mathematics or science, and performance in selection instruments such as tests, camp and interview across its admissions routes.
NUS High does not publish a points table or a fixed weight for each input.
Competition claims that were removed
The old page ranked NMOS Gold or its Special Round and APMOPS Invitation Round as "Very High", SPSO as "High", and SASMO or SMKC Gold as "Medium" for NUS High admission. It also claimed that NMOS carried a special direct signal because the school organises it.
The current NUS High pages say mathematics- and science-related competitions and programmes can be considered. They do not:
rank named competitions;
publish preferred award levels;
state that NMOS receives extra weight;
say that most successful applicants have awards;
promise that an award compensates for another part of selection; or
disclose the profiles of admitted applicants.
List genuine achievements accurately when the application permits them, but do not convert an organiser relationship or medal into an admissions prediction.
Supporting documents
For a Year 1 DSA applicant from a Singapore mainstream school, the FAQ says there is no need to submit a copy of the school report book.
For Year 1 applicants from non-mainstream schools, copies of Primary 5 and Primary 6 equivalent report books are required. Mathematics- and science-related certificates and awards are optional supporting documents for that group.
These Year 1 DSA rules are not the same as the document rules for Year 3 or the Supplementary Intake Exercise. The old guide's generic teacher-recommendation and portfolio advice was not supported as a universal Year 1 requirement and has been removed.
DSA commitment
NUS High says a student successfully admitted through DSA:
cannot take part in the ordinary S1 Posting Exercise;
is not eligible to transfer to another school after PSLE results;
must honour the commitment for the six-year programme; and
must participate in activities related to the selected talent from Year 1 to Year 4.
MOE's general DSA guidance also says admitted students must commit to the chosen school for the programme duration. Families should consider the student's interests, strengths, the school's academic and non-academic requirements, and the available development programme before preference submission.
Outcomes and preferences
NUS High says all applicants will receive a Confirmed Offer, Wait List or Unsuccessful outcome between 17 and 28 August by email. Successful applicants are to receive a Confirmed Offer or Wait List Offer by 28 August.
The school preference window is 19 to 23 October. Follow the MOE portal and the current email instructions when that window opens. Do not rely on the previous guide's late-October forecast or a 2025 MOE calendar.
Conditional Supplementary Intake Exercise
The Supplementary Intake Exercise opens only if Year 1 vacancies are available on the PSLE-results release date. The current page says an applicant must:
be a current Primary 6 student who took the PSLE; and
not have been admitted to a school through DSA-Sec.
NUS High says students with a PSLE score of 4 to 6 and Achievement Level 1 in both Mathematics and Science are encouraged to apply. This is encouragement wording, not a guarantee of shortlisting or admission.
Selection uses PSLE results and a portfolio including primary-school academic results. Only shortlisted applicants attend an interview. The application, interview and outcome dates are expressed relative to the PSLE-results release and only apply if the exercise opens.
What an applicant can do now
If waiting after the 4 July tests
Monitor the registered main contact email, including the spam folder.
Do not call the school for outcome or status information.
If invited, follow the camp email rather than third-party format predictions.
Keep 24 and 25 July available until the assigned date is known.
If not in the 2026 DSA exercise
Do not attempt a late DSA application; the portal is closed.
Check the NUS High page after PSLE results only for a vacancy-dependent Supplementary Intake Exercise.
Continue with the ordinary S1 Posting Exercise unless official instructions establish another outcome.
For a future cohort
Wait for the school and MOE to publish that cohort's dates.
Review the actual Math and Science talent areas and programme commitment.
Keep school records and genuine accomplishment evidence accurate.
Do not buy a programme based on a guaranteed-shortlist or insider-format claim.
