"What does Monday-in-lieu mean?"

For the three 2026 public holidays that fall on Sunday, MOM states that the following Monday will be a public holiday: 1 June after Vesak Day, 10 August after National Day, and 9 November after Deepavali.

"Do public holidays always create a long weekend?"

No. A long weekend is most common when the holiday is on Friday, or when MOM states that the Monday after a Sunday holiday will be a public holiday. Hari Raya Puasa falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026; MOE designates Monday, 23 March as a day off-in-lieu for schools, not as a public holiday for everyone. ---

Q: What are Singapore's public holidays in 2026?
A: MOM lists 11 gazetted public holidays for 2026. Three fall on a Sunday (Vesak Day, National Day and Deepavali), so Monday 1 June, Monday 10 August and Monday 9 November are public holidays. Six long weekends follow from these dates. MOM has also published the 2027 public holidays.

TL;DR
Official source: MOM press release for 2026 public holidays.
Friday public holidays: Good Friday (3 Apr), Labour Day (1 May), Christmas (25 Dec).
Sunday public holidays (Mon-in-lieu): Vesak Day (31 May → Mon, 1 Jun), National Day (9 Aug → Mon, 10 Aug), Deepavali (8 Nov → Mon, 9 Nov).
Hari Raya dates: MOM's June 2025 release marked Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji as subject to confirmation; MOM's public holidays page now lists both dates without that note.
2027: MOM published the 2027 public holidays on 18 June 2026. See the 2027 list.
