SEAB O-Level timetable 2026 quick answer
If you searched for the O-Level timetable 2026 or O-Level schedule 2026, use SEAB's timetable PDF as the source of truth. The main written paper window runs from Mon, 19 Oct to Tue, 10 Nov 2026, while science practicals are scheduled from Wed, 30 Sep to Tue, 13 Oct 2026. Oral, listening comprehension, and Mother Tongue components sit outside the written-paper window, so check the official SEAB PDF before booking travel or revision breaks.
This SEAB calendar covers many components (oral, listening comprehension, practicals, written papers). Not every candidate sits every component - use the official PDF for the full breakdown.
Tue, 22 Sep - Fri, 25 Sep 2026 and Wed, 30 Sep - Tue, 13 Oct 2026
Written examinations (end-of-year)
Mon, 19 Oct - Tue, 10 Nov 2026
Beyond the written papers: oral, listening, and practical dates
The O-Level exam season is longer than most students realise - it spans June to November, not just the Oct–Nov written window. Each component has its own scheduling logic, and some give you very little advance notice.
Mother Tongue written papers (June 2026): MT written papers are typically held in June, before the mid-year school holidays. If you are retaking Mother Tongue or sitting it for the first time, this is your earliest hard deadline for the year.
Oral exams - English and Mother Tongue (July–August 2026): Oral exams are typically scheduled across July and August. SEAB assigns your school a cluster date within this window, and your school then assigns individual slots. You may receive only a few days' notice of your exact date and time, so prepare oral skills continuously rather than cramming close to the window.
Listening comprehension - English and Mother Tongue (September–October 2026): Listening comprehension papers are scheduled separately from written papers, typically in September or early October, before the main written window opens on 19 October.
Science practicals (30 Sep - 13 Oct 2026): Practical exams run across this block (already in the table above) with multiple shifts per day. Most candidates receive approximately seven days' notice of their exact reporting time and shift. There is no meaningful opportunity to reschedule - treat this block as a firm commitment from late September onwards.
Quick planning notes (parents + students)
If you’re planning travel or major commitments, anchor around the end-of-year written exam window first.
For schools used as O-Level written exam venues, MOE notes the school term can end earlier - details here: Year-end school holidays 2026

How to plan your revision around O-Level dates
The O-Level season is not a single exam block - it runs across five months, from June to November. Planning backwards from each component helps you avoid being caught off guard.
Mother Tongue papers (June 2026) - the first component to sit; if you are retaking MT, this is your earliest hard deadline
Oral exams (July–August) - English and MT oral components; your school assigns your specific cluster date within the oral window
Practical exams (30 Sep - 13 Oct) - science practicals run across four shifts per day; many candidates receive only about seven days' notice of their exact slot
Written exams (19 Oct – 10 Nov) - the main written window; note that many papers start at 2:30 PM (afternoon sessions), not in the morning
A realistic month-by-month framework:
Jan–Mar: Complete syllabus coverage; identify and consolidate weak topics early
Apr–Jun: Targeted topical practice; MT revision intensifies before the June papers
Jul–Sep: Prelim exam block (typically August–September at most schools), oral preparation, and the start of timed paper practice
Oct–Nov: Final revision only - no new content; focus on past papers and exam technique under timed conditions
A common pattern on r/SGExams: when students were asked "when did you start studying for O's?", the top-voted answer was "18 Sep" - roughly one month before the written exams begin. If that describes where you are, a focused final push targeting your weakest subjects and highest-weight papers can still make a real difference. Oral and MT components arriving sooner are worth prioritising first.
Taking O-Levels as a private candidate?
Private candidate registration is 7–20 April 2026 via the SEAB Candidates Portal. If you are retaking O-Levels or sitting them for the first time outside of school:
If you are taking a science subject with a practical paper, you must declare practical training at registration. See our O-Level practical guides for details.
After O-Level results - JAE and next steps
O-Level results for the 2026 cohort are expected around mid-January 2027. The 2025 cohort received results on 14 January 2026 at 2:00 PM.
Collecting your results
School candidates collect results at their secondary school on results day.
Private candidates access results via the SEAB Candidates Portal from 2:45 PM on results day.
JAE (Joint Admissions Exercise)
JAE opens on the same afternoon as results release - typically at 4:00 PM - and closes approximately 5 days later. For reference, the 2026 JAE window ran from 14 January (4:00 PM) to 19 January 2026 (4:00 PM).
During JAE, students rank JC, polytechnic, and ITE courses in order of preference. Posting results are released approximately 3 weeks after JAE closes. Students report to their posted institution the following day.
JC eligibility: A gross L1R5 aggregate of 20 points or better qualifies for JC admission via JAE.
Appeals: After posting results are released, students who meet the minimum entry requirement for a course may appeal directly to that institution. Appeals are subject to limited vacancies and are not guaranteed.
The JAE application window is very short - typically 5 days from results release. If you are expecting O-Level results, prepare your course preferences in advance using prior years' indicative grade profiles (IGP). See our IGP guide for help interpreting cut-off points.
What to bring on O-Level exam day
Having everything in order before you leave home avoids unnecessary stress. Here is what every candidate needs:
Printed e-Statement of Entry - SEAB requires a physical printout. Digital copies on your phone or tablet are not accepted at the exam hall.
Original NRIC or passport - Photocopies are not accepted. Bring the original document.
Stationery in a transparent pencil case - At minimum: 2B pencils (for MCQ answer sheets), black or blue ink pens, a ruler, and an eraser.
Approved calculator (for applicable papers) - Calculators must be non-graphical and non-programmable. Check SEAB's approved calculator list before exam day; unapproved models will be confiscated.
MF26 formula booklet - This is provided at the exam hall for applicable Mathematics and Science papers. Do not bring your own copy.
Do not bring valuables, smartwatches, or mobile phones into the exam hall. Items brought in must be switched off and left in your bag.
Timing to note:
Arrive at least 40 minutes before the paper starts. Latecomers may not be admitted once the question paper has been opened.
Be seated at least 15 minutes before the paper starts.
Many O-Level papers - especially for sciences and humanities - are scheduled at 2:30 PM, not in the morning. Check your personal timetable and plan your lunch and travel accordingly.
What if you are sick on O-Level exam day?
If you fall ill on the day of a paper, act quickly - the window to seek special consideration is short.
Step 1: Notify immediately.
School candidates: inform your teacher-in-charge or school as soon as possible.
SEAB offers Special Consideration for candidates who are unable to sit a paper or are affected during the examination due to illness or bereavement, provided all of the following apply:
You are hospitalised, or have a contagious illness that prevents attendance, and
You have completed papers covering at least 50% of the total component weightage for that subject.
Special Consideration does not guarantee a grade uplift. It flags your script so that examiners are aware of the circumstances when marking.
Step 3: Submit your application within 3 working days.
Submit a completed Special Consideration application form together with a valid medical certificate (MC) or hospital memo within 3 working days after the affected paper. Late submissions are not entertained.
If you miss a paper without valid reasons, you will receive an "Absent" grade for that subject component, which affects your overall grade for the subject.
Note: SEAB cannot reschedule individual papers. The only formal channel is the Special Consideration process above.
FAQ
When do O-Level exams start in 2026?
The O-Level timetable starts with the earlier oral, listening, and practical components, then moves into the written window from Monday 19 October to Tuesday 10 November 2026. Check the SEAB O-Level examination timetable (PDF) for your specific subject dates.
How do I register for O-Levels as a private candidate?
Private candidate registration is from 7–20 April 2026 via the SEAB Candidates Portal. You will need a valid NRIC or FIN. Late registration is not accepted, so mark the dates early.
Are O-Level practical exams on separate dates?
Yes. Science practical exams are scheduled from 30 September to 13 October 2026, before the main written papers begin. Your school will confirm the exact dates for your subjects.
When are O-Level results released?
O-Level results are typically released in mid-January the following year. For the 2026 O-Level cohort, expect results around January 2027. MOE will announce the exact date closer to the release - watch SEAB's important dates page for the confirmed date.
Is it too late to start studying for O-Levels?
It depends on where you are in the calendar. Work backwards from the dates that are coming up soonest. Mother Tongue papers land in June and oral exams run from July - if those are approaching, prioritise them first. For the main written papers, which open on 19 October, even a structured September start - targeting your weakest subjects and highest-weight papers - can produce a meaningful improvement. The written window itself runs until 10 November, so you have more runway than the opening date suggests. The key is to stop adding new content once you hit October and shift entirely to timed past-paper practice.
How long is the JAE application window?
Approximately 5 days. JAE opens on the afternoon of O-Level results release and closes about 5 days later. Prepare your course preferences before results day so you are ready to apply as soon as the window opens.
How do I appeal my O-Level results or JAE posting?
For result appeals (re-marking), submit your request via the SEAB Candidates Portal within 5 working days of results release. For JAE posting appeals (wrong school), apply directly to the JC or institution - each school runs its own appeal process, subject to available vacancies.
How do I read the SEAB exam timetable?
The SEAB timetable PDF lists papers by subject code and date. Each row shows the paper number (e.g., Paper 1, Paper 2), the date, the session (AM or PM), and the duration. "AM" papers typically start at 8:00–8:15 AM; "PM" papers at 2:00–2:30 PM. If you take multiple subjects, cross-reference your subject codes to build your personal exam calendar. Your school may also provide a personalised schedule.
What happens if I am sick on O-Level exam day?
Notify your school (school candidates) or SEAB (private candidates) immediately - do not wait. Get a valid medical certificate or hospital memo. You can then apply for SEAB's Special Consideration within 3 working days after the affected paper. See the What if you are sick on O-Level exam day? section above for the full process. SEAB cannot reschedule individual papers, so the Special Consideration route is the only formal option available.
