Pearson Science Double Award Practical 6: Chemistry Contexts
Pearson Science Double Award practical notes on separation, formulae, electrolysis, salts, energetics and rates.
Double Award Chemistry practical questions test whether method choices follow chemical properties and whether observations support conclusions. This note maps the explicit 4SD0 practical points. Electrolysis is excluded because it belongs to separate Chemistry, despite appearing in the original scaffold.
Paper chromatography
Draw a pencil baseline because graphite does not dissolve into the solvent. Place small concentrated spots of ink or food colouring on the line and let them dry. Keep the solvent level below the spots, cover the container and allow the solvent to rise. Remove the paper before the front reaches the top and mark the solvent front immediately.
