TL;DR
Start practical training by November 2025 for the best buffer. Complete basic practicals by mid-April 2026. Register with SEAB during 7–20 April 2026. Finish exam-style sessions by September. Practical exams run October–November.
This page gives you a single calendar view of every milestone a private candidate needs to hit for O-Level or A-Level science practicals in Singapore. Pin it to your wall or save it to your phone.
The critical path
The entire timeline works backward from one hard deadline: the SEAB registration window in April. If you have not started practical training by then, you cannot sit science subjects in the same year.
Month-by-month checklist
November 2025 — Ideal start
- Decide which science subjects and levels you are sitting (O-Level 6091/6092/6093, Combined Science 5086/5087/5088, or A-Level 9749/9729/9744)
- Research training centres — see Singapore Tuition Centres With Full Lab Facilities
- Enrol in a practical programme and attend your first baseline session
- Assess your starting point: have you handled the apparatus before, or is this completely new?
Why November? Starting early gives you 5 months of buffer before the April deadline. Centres often offer early-bird pricing, and you avoid the January–March rush when other private candidates scramble to start.
December 2025 — Build momentum
- Complete 1–2 basic practicals per subject
- Focus on measurement technique: reading scales, recording to correct decimal places, using the correct units
- For O-Level: familiarise with stopwatch, metre rule, measuring cylinder, thermometer
- For A-Level: add vernier callipers, micrometer, multimeter, data-logger basics
January 2026 — Latest recommended start
- If you have not started yet, enrol immediately — this is the last comfortable start date
- Complete 2–3 basic practicals per subject
- Begin practising data presentation: drawing tables with correct headers, units, and significant figures
February 2026 — Midpoint for basic practicals
- Complete 3 of 4 basic practicals per subject
- Start focusing on subject-specific technique families:
- Physics: circuits, optics ray tracing, mechanics timing
- Chemistry: titration, salt preparation, qualitative analysis
